Terry Fox Event at NLS is on September 17 |
Each September, students at Northern Lights School will join thousands of schools worldwide in the annual Terry Fox Event. In preparation for the event, students reflect on topics such as Terry Fox’s legacy, meeting challenges, empathy, and setting personal goals. You may wish to support your child’s learning about Terry Fox through discussion at home. Further information can be found at https://terryfox.org/. This year the Northern Lights School community is challenged to meet the goal set by our students of raising $1900.00 and running or walking 1900 km! On Thursday, September 17, students will run around a designated course on the field beside the school. In case of inclement weather, the run will take place indoors during regularly scheduled Phys. Ed. classes. Students and families are invited to donate to the Terry Fox Foundation in the following ways: by contributing cash or cheques, made payable to The Terry Fox Foundation, to classroom collection boxes; or online. Online donations may be made at: https://schools.terryfox.ca/137827 . Tax receipts will be issued by the Terry Fox Foundation for donations over $20.00. All monies raised through our event will be forwarded to the Foundation to further the cause of cancer research. The deadline for donation is Friday, September 18, 2026. Let’s help Northern Lights School keep Terry’s dream of finding a cure for cancer alive. Thank you! Today's Highlights "ME" Bags! - Today we learned about Viraj, Asees and Meredith!    Literacy - We learned how to do a word search. Part of our literacy centres will be using word searches to find and read heart words and high frequency words.       UFLI - We continued our review with short vowels. Today was 'u'.  On Friday we read the book, "Wordy Birdy". We had a great conversation about why it is important to listen to others and then we made our own Wordy Birdy. Today students wrote their sentences from the ideas we came up with. We used the starter sentence, 'I need to listen like wordy birdy ____________'            In Math we made patterns that had up to four elements and two attributes. We used lots of manipulatives, but Mrs. Buzanko was having too much fun going around and learning about everyones patterns, she forgot to take pictures! |
